Megan's Story: Megan is an Ojibwe woman who was born in Winnipeg, MB and raised in Sagkeeng First Nation. Her style of beadwork is a mix of contemporary and traditional. Although she did not grow up with her traditional culture, she has found that beading has certainly brought her back to her traditional Ojibwe roots.
Her beading skills were self-taught. Once she felt that she was adequate with beadwork, Megan then went on to learn other skills as well. She learned how to make pucker-toe moccasins with Teecka Spence, as well as mukluks and gauntlets with Gloria Beckman through the Manitobah Storyboot School program. In addition to these, Megan has learned how to make pointed toe moccasins with Cynthia Boehm! She has also tried tanning hide with Carl Froese through a summer workshop in 2022. Throughout all of this her cousin, Rhonda Chartrand, has been a great teacher to her during the past two and a half years.
Megan has stated that eventually, she will be able to tan her own hunted hides to make her very own creations. She will continue to learn as she is forever grateful for the knowledge that she is given.
Megan currently resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba with her three dogs: Roxy, Suzie, and Bronn.
