For Fall 2026, Manitobah continues its Artist Series with House of Sutai, the fashion house founded by Peshawn Bread. A Comanche/Kiowa/Cherokee nonbinary Designer, Filmmaker and Creative Director, Peshawn’s work focuses on innovative and romantic designs, Indigenous luxury and LGBTQ+ representation.

For this collaboration, Peshawn brings the distinctive look of House of Sutai to Manitobah through a winter-inspired collection featuring the classic pairing of dentalium shells and pearls. Snowflake details and luminous pearls come together to create a collection that brings a sense of winter elegance to the cozy season.

1) Why is it important for Indigenous artists to be seen in spaces like fashion and design?

It’s integral that indigenous artists be seen and uplifted in spaces such as fashion and design because we’ve been practicing fashion and design from the beginning of time. Our clothing has always had deep stories, familial ties and high fashion techniques! It’s not brand new to us and we deserve the recognition in these industries as our work is high caliber. Growing up I was surrounded by Native designers such as Orlando Dugi, Jamie Okuma, Patricia Michaels etc. and seeing them create while pushing doors wide open; I knew anything was possible just by watching their successes. 

2) What values guide your work every day?

Community, respect and the idea of challenging myself to new techniques, designs and ways of practicing my creativity! I always try to work when I feel love or passion behind an idea. It may not turn out perfect but the heart and dedication is in it.

3) How has community shaped the artist you are today?

I am nothing without my community, the endless stories, the culture, making traditional clothes from a young age and seeing how my relatives dress inspires me! As an artist, I have many communities I belong to from Native art, Film and Fashion, the Queer community and my tribal; all of these communities and leaders in them have pushed me forward to create at my highest potential. Seeing elders and my predecessors make space for us inspires me.

4) Who has had the biggest impact on your creative journey?

There’s never one person! But if I had to pick: My Great Great Aunt Josephine Myers Wapp. She’s an inspiration but I am lucky to have had wonderful people who I can call my family embrace my creativity and encourage me to go forward. The list is endless!! I am inspired by those who have loved me as of their own and I continue my journey for the young queer people who call me their “mother” or “auncle”! 

5) What story do you hope to share through this collection/collaboration?

I hope people see this collection and collaboration and feel the power and love to style themselves unapologetically in elegance! This collection is the first to include a unisex sized mukluk and it means the world that we made this possible! My work is never gendered; I want everyone to be able to enjoy the designs and comfort. I pride myself on my LGTBQ2S+ advocacy and thrive to see my designs worn on community members worldwide. With these images I want people to know we belong every era, decade and future.
