About the Art
The piece of art portrays the interconnectedness of all living beings through a whole circle. However, the circle is divided to symbolize the duality of life, such as man and woman, mother and father, spirit world and physical world. The flowing lines in the sky represent the flow of energy through all living beings. A turtle is depicted swimming towards the prairie grasses, which have always sustained life.
According to legends, Turtle Island was created when a clump of soil on Turtle's shell grew into what is now known as North America. The markings on Turtle's back represent the cycles of the moon. Overall, the artwork celebrates the harmony and balance between all living beings and their connection to nature.
